Израильские археологи объявили об обнаружении места захоронения библейского пророка Захарии. Оно расположено в византийской церкви V-VII веков, раскопанной в Хирбет-Мидрасе в Иудее, сообщает "Лента.ру" со ссылкой на пресс-релиз Израильского управления древностей.
Церковь, выстроенная как традиционная византийская базилика, находилась на территории крупного поселения, о богатстве которого свидетельствуют роскошные мозаики, колонны из импортного мрамора и покрытые редкими узорами артефакты. В подземелье церкви обнаружена разветвленная система туннелей, относящаяся, судя по найденным там монетам и керамике, к I-II векам нашей эры. В туннелях имелись родники и помещения для хранения продовольствия.
В одном из нефов археологи обнаружили проход в пустующую гробницу. Расположение церкви совпадает с указаниями письменных источников, а также Мадабской карты VI века, на место захоронения пророка Захарии, обнаруженное византийцами в V веке. С этим пророком, жившим, вероятно, в VI веке до нашей эры (во время и сразу после Вавилонского пленения евреев), связывают Книгу пророка Захарии (предпоследнюю из ветхозаветных пророческих книг), содержащую предсказания о земной жизни и страданиях Мессии. Точность указаний Мадабской карты уже не раз получала археологические подтверждения.
Хирбет-Мидрас было важным поселением в период Второго храма (516 год до нашей эры - 70 год нашей эры). Его разрушили римляне в 135 году нашей эры, при подавлении восстания Бар-Кохбы. Позже он возродился как христианское поселение, хотя, по предположениям современных ученых, по соседству с византийской церковью там находилась крупная синагога.
