Когда в руки попадает книга с названием «Тайны древних цивилизаций», нужно быть очень осторожным. Обычно за подобным заголовком прячется очередная криптоисторическая или палеофантастическая белиберда.
Тем приятнее было обнаружить, что фолиант в подарочном издании за авторством археолога Питера Джеймса и исследователя загадок истории Ника Торпа — серьезный труд, написанный грамотно и ответственно, с привлечением новейших исследований в области древней истории.
Авторы перебирают самые известные легенды о глобальных катастрофах и исчезнувших цивилизациях, показывая, что реальность была куда прозаичнее, чем вымыслы криптоисториков. К примеру, знаменитые фигуры в пустыне Наска получили объяснение в ходе изучения религиозных обрядов местных индейцев: оказалось, что это дороги для ритуальных процессий.
Хотя я считаю, что разумное объяснение должно выглядеть ровно наоборот: "божественные линии" были выбраны индейцами для своих ритуальных дорог. А иначе - получается полный бред! Ходили-ходили и вытоптали рисунки, видимые только с высоты полёта? Это кто ж их так водил?
Итог: очень интересная и прекрасно иллюстрированная книга. Рекомендуется к прочтению тем, кто не желает, чтобы ему морочили голову современные мифотворцы.
